ThingamaWHAT? The second annual ThingamaJIB presented by Red Bull went off under snowy skies last Saturday night, Feb. 2.
The only event of its kind anywhere, the whole concept behind ThingamaJIB is to take items that you normally wouldn’t find on the slope and re-purpose them as terrain park features. This year, the crew stepped up the concept from last year and featured an entire park that carried a street scene vibe. Road Barriers, Traffic Signs, a streetlight illuminating some park benches, handrails, a custom bike rack, and more were just a few features available for riders to shred.

Over 50 competitors came out to jam and began warming up and scoping the setup out around 5pm. The features were no doubt one of a kind, but also setup with overall flow in mind, giving riders an entire run full of different options to get creative.

The format decided on was to let all riders session the course together in a big long hour Jam, leading into a finals Jam on the central features in the park – a street light jib, a park bench step-down box, and the Red Bull Custom Bike Rack. A Peaceful snowfall set the mood for the shredding to commence. All features were getting boosted non-stop with a ton of trick variety – from underflips on the Street Light feature, to smooth rail tricks on the bike rack, to big lofty spins out of the propane tank road gap feature just to name a few.

In the end, Charlie Mayforth took the Open Snowboard Division and Berkley Wilcox claimed the cash for the skiers. Both Berkley & Charlie were hooked up with $400 and a pair of Oakley Airbrake Goggles!
